Erma Franklin was an American gospel and R&B singer, best known as the elder sister of the legendary Aretha Franklin. She was born in Shelby, Mississippi in 1938 and began singing in her father's church choir at a young age. Erma released her debut album, Soul Sister, in 1967 and went on to release several other albums throughout her career. Her most famous song, "Piece of My Heart," was famously covered by Janis Joplin in 1968. Erma passed away in 2002, but her legacy lives on through her music.
