Mel Ott was an American professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball from 1926 to 1947. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Ott was a six-time National League home run champion and was the first National League player to hit 500 home runs. He was also a three-time All-Star and was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1936. Ott's career batting average of .304 is still the highest of any National League right-handed hitter with more than 3,000 at-bats.
